Mr Henry H. Paul. Several years having elapsed since the formation of a Building Society, and some of the terminable ones already in existence being about to expire, the formation of the above has been resolved on. The general prosperity of the Province, and the consequent increase of population, have caused the demand for land and houses greatly to exceed the supply. Money will be advanced for the purchase of land, and the erection of houses, either on freeholds or leaseholds ; and in this Society the repayments will be so small as not to exceed the ordinary rents for dwellings, so that without extra outlay (paying, as it were, his rent to the Society instead of a landlord), the property becomes the member’s own in the course of a few years. The facilities offered by this Society for the profitable investment of small savings, afford all the usual advantages of Savings Banks, This Society is not started in opposition to the present ones, but simply to assist in providing homes for the people, and for encouraging habits of thrift and saving. Further information will be afforded, and names of applicants for shares received by the Interim-Secretary, at his office, Jetty street. FIELD Naturalist Club,—First Excursion for Season.
