Wednesday, September 17. (Before His Worship the Mayor and J. Brown, Esq., J.P.)
Ship Deserters. -Samuel Whitlaw, Jas. Headman, and Peter Peters were severally charged with deserting from the ship Allahabad, on the 14th inst., in which they were articled seamen, contrary to the Merchant Shipping Act, 1854. All pleaded guilty to the charge.—Frederick William Crispin, master of the ship, produced the articles, and in answer to the Bench expressed his willingness to take back the men and give them another trial.—The prisoners refusing to go back, were each sentenced to twelve weeks’ imprisonment, and in the event of the ship sailing in the meantime, to be placed on board.
