Queen Victoria has outlived officially twelve of her Premiers.

A. E. Tait is painting a scene among the Adireudacks—Autumn foliage seen through the morning mist closes behind a little lake. With feet among the water-lilies the head thrown back, a deer stands listening to sounds which, among the Adirendacks, he has learned too well not to interpret. The painting is valuable, net only from the spirited figure, but from the rendering of an early morning landscape. George H. Story is at work on a painting which he calls the “Kecapture of the Pet. A boy, whose fine spirited face glows. with triumph from under his broad shading straw hat, holds to his breast a runaway rabbit. The expression and pose of the figure are very fine. There is a sense of largeness and nobleness in both the conception and the drawing, which, if united to rich color, will, make an exceedingly attractive picture. An amusing story, suggested by recent ravages of white ants, is told by a correspondent of the China Mail:— U Some years ago, when Bencoolen was a portion of our Indian Empire, a deficit occurred in the treasury of the place. An investigation followed, and the result of the fnquiry elicited the following information, namely, ‘ that the white ants had got into the strong room, and eaten up the dollars,’ This was deemed satisfactory, and the matter was allowed to drop. ”
