At themeeting of the Thames Rifle Association, oh the 2nd inst., thefollowipg letter from the secretary of the Victorian Rifle Association was read :—“ Yours of the 28th ult. came duly to hand through our local military department, and I take the earliest opportunity of replying thereto. I have not had an opportunity of laying your letter before the Council of the Victorian Rifle Association j but I feel sure that I express their feeling when I say that we shall be delighted to see your representatives at our rifle meeting on the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th days of November next. Our programme of matches is not settle ! yet, but I may say that prizes to the value of between L 350 and L4OO will be given in matches open to all comers. With respect to the Intercolonial match, I beg to enclose, for your information, a printed copy of the conditions agreed upon between the N.S.W. Rifle Association and ourselves, and to state that I believe we shall be happy toadmit2orepresentativeßfromNew Zealand on the same conditions; or, if you are unable to arm your representatives with Hay rifles, with the conditions modified, so as to allow your men to use medium Enfield rifles, provided the ammunition and sights are in accordance with ohr conditions. I believe, from a letter just received from Sydney, that the N.S.W. men will agree to your admission on theae terms. It is also intended to fire an Intercolonial, small-bore match—eight men a-side, at 600,. 800, and 900 yards, fifteen shots at each, with any rifle, with sights similar to those. used -at Wimbledon—Wimbledon targets and scoring. In this match represeutativee may be civilians; in fact any residents of the Colony represented. I think you might b<s admitted to this also. The Government of this Colony has agreed to provide barrack accommodation for the N.S.W. men, and I have no doubt but that we can procure the same for your men should your men require it. T will write again after the next meeting of our council.—l am, 4c,, X■ M. Templeton. N. B.—Our matches open to allcomers allow the use of any bona fide large-bore rifle, which would of course include your medium Enfield rifle.”
