WASTE LAND BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Waste Land Board was held to-day. Present — Messrs Clark (in the chair), Butterwortb, and Reid. Mr Howorth, for Mr Barry, applied for authority to occupy a small portion of the Bush Reserve, Block 5, Otakia, for depasturing purposes. Referred to the Ranger to report on. Mr James Baillie applied in writing to purchase a strip of Crown Lands between his section 16, block 3. Otago Peninsula, and the cliff in section 53, but not being present to give some necessary information the application fell through, Mr Baillie also applied to have offered for sale, at 10s per acre, about eighty acres between the beach and the road in section 53, block 3, same district. Refused.

It was intimated that the Chief Commissioner desired the following to be placed on the minutes : —Land advertised for sale at 10s per acre and withdrawn, should be ad vertised for one month as open on a day to be named, at 20s per acre. Agreed to. Hanger Innis reported, on the application of Messrs Dalgleish and Smith, for a license to occupy the Islands of Waitaki, oppasite section 2, block 2, Awomoko, The application was granted. Hanger Innes reported, on the application of Mr John Granger, to purchase part of the Bush Reserve, block 3, Waikouaiti; that the land is heavily timbered. Kef used. Mr George Flett applied to lease or purchase a bush reserve, parts of section 45, block 4, Otakia District. Referred to the t. anger to report on. Mr John Barr, Balclutha, offered the use of his hall there, for auction sales, the conducting of sales in hotels being objected to by those attending them. The offer was accepted, with thanks. Messrs Ho worth and Hodgkins gave notice of appeal from Mr Samuel O’Kane against the decision of the Board re his applications for sections 12, block 3, and 31, block 5, Otakia. Appeal received.^ Mr Henry Gunner applied for a license to depasture forty sheep on Ram Island, Lake Wanaka. Refused. Letters were read from Messrs G. F. Martin and Co., and Mr H. B. Osborne, relative to the appointment of Mr D. Macrorie to be an auctioneer to the Board, without he allowance of time for others to apply in. The consideration of the letters was postponed Mr Warden Stratford reported on the application of Messrs .'Sharp and M'Kechnie, tor authority to construct and use a trarnwaj' from Bush Creek to Arrowtown, that it was very reasonable. Granted, subject to certain conditions recommended by the Warden, the applicants to effect the survey at their own expense. Certificates, which had been granted by Mr Warden Beetham to Mr Alex. M’Kenzie, to occupy sections 12, block 3; 14, block 3, and 44, block —, Mid-Wakatip, on deferred payments, were refused by the Board. Mr R. T. Wheeler, for Messrs Joseph and John Tamblyn, applied to have plans of their applications for secs. 36 and 37, block 3/I’eviot approved and them declared the purchaser*. The report of the Warden was favorable, applicants having been put to great expense in planting fruit trees. Decision postponed for a week. Mr Murdoch M'Lennan applied for a license under clause 101 to occupy a patch of clear land, about 500 acres, on the Forest Range, near his Hun No. 448. Granted, on the usual terms. The Wesleyan Church Committee submitted the plan of their application to purchase section 39, block 2, Teviot, for approval, and them to be declared the purchasers. Referred to the Warden to report on. Mr Robert Black applied to purchase sections 20, 30, and 31, block 20, Shotover, held under agricultural lease. Granted.
