Tuesday, September 2. (Before His Worship the Mayor, J. Brown, aud A. J. Burns, Esqs., J.P’s.)

Obscene Language.— Jane Kelysham, a very old offender, was charged with making use of obscene and indecent language in Maclaggan street, at 12.30 this morning. After the arresting constable had stated the circumstances that caused him to lock up the defendant, she stated that it was impossible that she could have used the words, and that they were below her “humblest station.” The Bsnch, however, thought differently, judging by the charges recorded on the sheet against her, and fined her 40s, with the alternative of seven days’ imprisonment. Petty ‘I heft. — A charge against Wang Meng of stealing a piece of zinc of the value of 5s from Dunning’s buildings, Princes street, was adjourned till to-morrow, to enable the accused to procure legal advice.

Fighting. —Thomas Dickison wrote to the Bench asking for a release of the case of fighting, in which he had forfeited his bail for non-appearance on the previous day. He stated that he arrived in the Court a few minutes after the case had been disposed of, and that the cause of h : s being late was that he was mistaken in the time of the sitting of the Court. The fine was reduced to 20s.
