Lats Advertisements. TO CAPITALISTS, COAL MASTERS, AND OTHERS. COAL PIT, &c., FOR SALE. OWING to Mr Pollock being about to return to Scotland on private business, the Lease (for twenty-one years from January last) of the Prince of Wales Coal Pit, at Green Island, held by him and others, is for Sale by private treat}'. The Colliery is fully equipped for an outfit of 3,000 tons per month, and the sale will include the plant ou shaft and tramway, steam-engine, engine-house, smithy, and other buildings, all of which are of recent erection. 'i he Colliery has been opened only for six months. The beam is 18 feet thick, extending over an area of 100 acres, and the Coal is used for steam purposes by the following large consumers :—Messrs Burns and Co., Moseiel factory ; the Saddle Hill Quartz Reef Company ; the Meat Preserving Company ; the Dunedin Distillery Company, and others, who have handed the Company letters testifying to its superior quality and of their satisfaction with it for their requirements ; and the daily increasing demand for domestic uses proves that the Coal is found both good and economical. These facts are a guarantee that the consumption will be much increased when better facilities for conveyance at a much cheaper rate are available. The sh»ft of 200 ft. in depth was sunk, and the seam opened out, under the management of Mr Pollock, who has had extensive practical experience in mining in the Old Country and the Colonies, and he is willing, if required by the purchaser, to arrange to continue his superintendence during the time he remains at Green Island, which must necessarily be some months, owing to private business. Together with the above Coal Pit, there will be sold the Company's right to the BED OF FIRE-CLAY, 4|ft. thick, which was passed through in sinking the shaft, a specimen of which was handed to the Provincial Government to be analysed, and on which Professor Black reported very favorably. His report can be seen on application. The Evening Star, in publishing the report, adds, “ We have seen a specimen of it burnt in the process of testing, which proves it to be capable of conversion into handsome pottery. ” Considering the quantity and quality of the coal—a good market—the valuable bed of fire-clay—its favorable position—the connexion of the pit by a branch from the Main Line, to be constructed shortly by the Provincial Government-abundance of laborone hundred miners to arrive soon—the above property must prove a profitable enterprise for a Private or Joint Stock Company. Parties desirous of examining the Colliery and obtaining further particulars are requested to apply to Mr Pollock, at the Works, or William Brown, Broker, opposite the National Bank, Princes street, Dunedin.
