From the evidence of Police Constable Eaves, it appeared that at midnight on the 12th inst. he walked past a brick-kiln, and observed the two prisoners asleep on the ground. He aroused them, and in reply to his questions, they said they had permission to stay there. Eaves saw on the fire a large ball of clay, from which were projecting two feathers. He opened the clay, and in the centre of it ho found a large hen. The bird was neither dressed nor plucked. The constable explained that by this mode of cookery the trouble of plucking and dressing the fowl was saved, the skin and feathers being easily peeled off after it was cooked.
