THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
[By Electric Telegraph.] Wellington*, August 25. In the House to-night, Taiaroa presented a petition from Natives of Hawke’s Bay and Wellington against the Native Reserves Act Amendment Bill. The Diseased Cattle Act Amendment Bill was read a first time, and the Native Reserves Aot Amendment Bill read a third time. Mr O’Rorke moved the second reading of the Promissory Oaths Bill, which was carried without discussion. The Weights and Measures Act Amendment Bill is now on. (FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.) August 26. At the meeting of the Waste Lands Committee to-day, Mr Gillies endeavored to get improvement clauses inserted in the Southland Waste Lands Bill, which Mr Webster opposed.—Mr Peid gave notice of a clause by which all agricultural land should be set aside under the deferred payments system. The proposal was .deferred. Groat interest was manifested by tbe Southland members.
