CHARITABLE BENEFITS.

To the Editor.

Sir, —The various Friendly Societies and the public generally should in future be more cautious when giving their patronage towards entertainments got up ostensibly for

a charitable purpose. The receipts in connection with the late benefit for the Benevolent Institution at the Queen’s Theatre, were L 45 10s, out of which that institution only received the small sum of 1.9 3b 6d, evidently showing that the affair resolved itself into a benefit for the management, instead of augmenting the funds of a very deserving object.-! am, *c„ CJHR , Dunedin, August 23.
