tri 'f'i ie s.s. Lady of the Lake, from the Bluff, arrived at 4.30 p.m. yesterday, having left the Bluff at 8 p.m. on the 20th, and had fine weather on the coast. . .. The Harbor Company s p.s. Samson left the railway pier this morning at 8.30 for Oamani. The ship Cospatrick, for Calcutta, Was removed from the railway pier yesterday afternoon. The coasters Jane Anderson, for Oamaru, Margaret Scoil&y, for Bluff, and Pioneer, foi Shag Point, sailed out. The Swordfish was towed up to Dunedin by the Geelong this afternoon. The barque Duke of Edinburgh was towed up this morning by the tug Geelong, after a smart passage of ten days, bringing 550 tons of coal, and 20 tons of coke, consigned to J. and D Findlay. Captain Arnold reports leaving Newcastle, at 8 p.m., on the 12th, with heavy N.E. winds; sighted Chalky Inlet, with light westerly winds; made the land on the 19th ; passed Dog Island, at 7 a*m., on the 20th \ passed Cape Saunders, at 3 p,m., on the 21st; passed a barque off Waipapapa Point, the wind being from the N.W. ; and anchored at the Heads last night. We thank Captain Arnold for Newcastle papers. During her stay in Newcastle she has been in dock and had a thorough overhaul. Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood, and Co. s s.s. Claud Hamilton arrived at 5.15 p.m. yesterday from Melbourne and Northern ports. Captain House reports leaving Hobson’s Bay at 2.30 p.m. on the 9th ; passed Port Phillip Heads at 4.30 p.m. the same day ; passed Wilson’s Promontory at 4.30 a.m. on the 10th, Kent s Group at 9.30 a.m., and the Sisters at 12.30 p.m. ; sighted the land off Hokitika at 8 a.m. on tho 15th. During the first two days had light S.S.E. winds, then fresh S.W. winds ; was tendered by the steamer Waipara at 2.40 p.m. on the 15th ; left at 4.20 p.m for Grcymouth ; arrived there at 5.40 p.m.; left forNolson at 6.30 p.m. ; arrived there at 4 p.m. on the 16th; left for Wellington at 4 p.m. on the 18th ; arrived at 8 a.m. on the 19th, having had S.W. winds and heavy swell during the passage ; left for Lyttelton at 6 p.m. same day: arrived there at 2 p.m. on the 20th; passed the ship Mary Sheppard outside Lyttelton; left again at 9 p.m., and arrived as above.
