Grahamstown, August 16. The gold returns for the fortnight are : Kurunui, 145 ounces; Golden Crown, 38 ounces. The share market is dull. Some Caledonians have been sold at L2O. New Plymouth, August 16. The first sod of the railway will be turned on Thursday. The Press suggests that a testimonial should be presented to Mr Kelly, the local representative, for his exertions in connection with the railway. Wellington, August 16. The theatrical company who were to support Mr Fairclough have gone to Auckland. Mr Fairclough and Miss Legrand will give readings. The Customs revenue collected here during the past month amounted to L 1,620. The Lady Bird was taken on to the patent slip to-day. The Luna and Manawatu steamed to the patent slip with members and others. Wanganui, August 16, Mr Watt, the Mayor, has promised to resign his seat in the Provincial Executive.
