Thursday, August 7. (Before His Worship the Mayor; and J, Black, Esq., J.P.)

Petty Larceny. Andrew Laurie, on remand, charged with stealing a blanket, the property of Mr Dohring, butcher, George street, was discharged, accused’s father stating that the blanket produced had been in his possession upwards of two years. Unregistered Dogs. James Wilkins was charged with keeping an unregistered dog above the age of six months. The dog having been killed, the charge was withdrawn at the instigation of the Inspector. Similar charges against John Galland and Eliza Jones were dismissed on payment of costs, the dogs having been registered. Cab Fare.-— John Webb appeared on information to show cause why he should not pay the sum of Is 6d, demanded by Samuel Mercer as cab-hire. Defendant stated that he went from the stand to Pelichet Bay in complainant’s cab, the latter demanding Is 6cl as the fare. He considered the charge exorbitant, and wished to know the proper fare. —Complainant stated that defendant took him from the head of the stand, and the distance was a mile and a half. While on the road ha refused two passengers, as he was going to Pelichet Bay. —The Bench considered the fare charged was a legal one, but dismissed the charge on payment of the la 6d and costs.
