London, July 25. The conditions of peace between Khiva and Russia are the payment of an indemnity by the Khan of 2,000.000 rubles, the payment to extend over a period of seven years, during which time a Russian force under General Schwattau will occupy Kuugrad as a .guarantee of the fulfilment of this engagement. It is proposed to abolish capital punishment, and to maintain the Khanate under the rule of the Khan, the bonnOary being limited to the river Ammo. The Khivan possessions on the right bank of that river have been ceded to Bokhara, as a reward to the latter for assisting Russia. The evacuation of Khiva will take place in August. A German frigate has captured a Spanish steamer, named the Insurgent, with Internationalists on board. The House of Lords lias agreed, with a slight exception, to the amendments on the Judicature Bill made by the House of Commons. The Commercial Treaty between _ England and Franco has been signed. Its main feature is the renewal of the Treaty of 1860 until June, 1877. The Queen is expected to visit St. Petersburg to witness the Duke of Edinburgh’s marriage with the Grand Duchess Marie, only daughter of the Czar. A fire at Baltimore destroyed four churches and 100 other buildings. Baron Wolverton, of Stanmore Park, Middlesex, is dead. The Rating Rill has been rejected by the House of Lords. The Garlists have asked France to recognise them as belligerents. The French Assembly has voted a Bill abolishing the tax on raw materials. At a Consistory Council held at Rome the Pope nominated two Bishops —one each for the Roman Catholic Dioceses of Perth and Adelaide. July 20. The Bank rate of discount is 4 per cent. Gold stocks are rallying. The prospectus has been issued of the Victorian Gold Consols Company, with a capital of 1/160,000, to work four mines in Victoria. The present cash quotations for Australian copper arc IMO to LO2, Tin is recovering; Straits is quoted at Ll3O. Tallow and petroleum are unchanged. Colonial stocks arc quoted as follows : Victorian Sixes, January and July, 116 ; do, April and October, 112“ ;do Fives, January and July, 105.1 ; New South Wales, 1888-1801, 1051.; New Zealand Consolidated Fives, 1031 ; Queensland Sixes, January and July, 108;.’ ; South Australian Sixes, short, 110; do do, long, 115 ; Tasmanian Sixes, 110. Adelaide wheat is selling at 60s per lOßlbs. Union Bank of Australia shares are at 53;/ ; South Australian Bank do at 33 ; and National Bank of Australia do at 6.
In wool the competition continues to be extremely vigorous, and prices are well sustained.
