We cannot but condemn the virulent animus exhibited towards Mr Fish by the Daily Times. We have not at all times agreed with that gentleman, and have never hesitated to express our dissent from him, with our reasons, when necessary. But we are not insensible to the great services he has rendered to Dunedin, and do not believe that the election of Mr Prosser arose from change of opinion in regard to him. The prevailing idea is that it is needful to secure the services of a succession of able men, and Mr Fish, being already a representative of the City in the Provincial Council, is able to effect still more for the benefit of the City then when connected with the City Council. That he was mainly the mover in the successful effort to have the price of gas reduced, and that; he has three times filled the office of Mayor with credit to himself and to general satisfaction, are facts that will not be forgotten. During his Mayoralty, the affairs of the City have been well conducted, and we hardly think there is any one, not even excepting hia bitterest opponents, who will not consider the remarks of the Daily Times as equally unjust and unkind.
