London, July 19. Commercial.— The wool sales opened on the 10th with 200,000 bales arrived. 6,500 bales were offered. The attendance of home and foreign buyers was good, and the biddings were spirited throughout. Cross-breds showed a decline of Id on the opening, but prices have since improved, and at the close of the sales an average advance of Id was established, and for superior combings of 2d to 3d. The New Zealand Fibre Company propose establishing works in New Zealand for manufacturing the company’s fabrics. The New Zealand Debenture Loan of L 200,000 at 4 per cent, was a failure, owing to fixing the minimum at LlO5. Tallow dull. Sperm oil, L 92; petroleum, 14d. Leather, best sides, 12d to 13d; heavy ox hides, 6sd to 8d ditto. Pig iron, 108s ; copper, L9O. Australian tin ore, L7O. Adelaide wheat, 60s to 625. Hemp and cotton lower. The estimated export of the Californian harvest is 600,000 tons. Breadstuffs are firmer. The next wool sales are to take place on October 2. New Zealand Consolidated Fives, 104$ ; Victorian Sixes, April and October, 112; Fives, January and July, 105|; New South Wales Fives, lo4i. The Australian Agricultural Company have declared a dividend of eight and a half per cent.; the Union Bank declared thirteen per cent,, and the South Australian Bank ten per cent.
