WASTE LAND BOARD.
Thursday, July 24. Present: Messrs J. T. Thomson, Chief Commissioner, in the chair, Strode, Butterworth, Clark, Reid, and Bastings. Messrs Connell and Moodie made application on behalf of Mr C. 8. Fenwick, for preemptive right of twenty aoces on run No. 217. The application was passed. The application of Messrs Buchanan and Jones to have the plans of pre-emptive right of No. 6,334 on run No. 240, altered, was passed ; survey to be approved. In the matter of the application of Mr J. Roberts for lease on run No. 213, under clause 113, the time was extended for one month. The application of Messrs Roberts and Handyside for leave to apply for a pre-emp-tive right for No, 6,893 on run 226, was passed ; survey to be approved. The application of Mr Cheeseman, secretary Clyde School Committee, for two acres of land to be set apart as a school reserve, was referred to the Government. The application of Mr Moilison to purchase part of a bush reserve at Clarendon, was granted, subject to the land being sold at the upset price of LI Is per acre. The report of the District Officer at Clyde regarding petition of miners and ethers, praying that certain lands there should not be sold, was read. 'J he recommendation of the Government that Mr D. Macroria be appointed auctioneer for Invercargill was approved. The application of Mr Prescott to mine for coal at St Bathaus was granted, subject to the consent of the runholder being obtained Mr MTntosh was appointed member of the N’aseby Board of Enquiry, in place of Mr Ross, resigned. On the protest of the District Land Officer at Naseby against the withdrawal from sale of sections 118, 128, 120, 70, 71, block 1, being read, the Board decided that the sale should take place. The application of Messrs Gay and Gooday, on behalf of Mr James White to purchase section 38, block 19, at Tuapeka, was referred to
The consideration of the request of Mr W. S, Smith, for a renewal of water-race license, was postponed for a fortnight. The Board considered' it necessary that the runholder’s consent and Warden’s report should bs obtained, before granting leave to Mr E. Manuel to purchase his garden at Coal Creek, Teviot. A license was granted fo Messrs Nicol and Mackay, for a saw-mil! in the Maungatua district, at the rate of Lls per annum. The Board decided to grant a license to Messrs R. Sharp and John MTCaine, to construct a tramway from Bush Creek to Arrowtown, on the applicants paying costs of survey, and the Warden’s report concerning the matter being obtained. The Board decided that it had no power to deal with the application of Mr J. Smith, who wished to exorcise his pre-emptive right in Waitahuua West, instead of on run .No, 123. The application of Mr Bannatyne that section 41, block 2, Clarendon, should be declared open for sale, was refused. The application of Mr John Smith to purchase the agricultural leases of several sections situated in the Shotover district, was granted. The application of James Whelan to exchange leases of land situated at the Shotover, for others, under the Waste Lands Act, 1872, was granted ; as also were similar applications of Peter Scott and E. Fitzgibbon for sections at Table Hill. The Board then adjourned.
