The amount of revenue received at the Ciu tom-house on goods cleared for consumption this day, was LB6i Is Id. Saturday, noon. The business of the past week compares favorably with that of the preceding, though the up country trade has been light, and but a moderate amount of briskness has been apparent. In the import market shipments by last arrivals have been offering, and transactions to a fair extent in some few items hav,« been reported ; probably the coming week, if the weather keeps fine, will witness a livelier feeling. On Wednesday, Messrs M‘Landless, Hepburn, and Co. offered about 4,000 packages new sugars, being a portion of one of the cargoes last to hand. The wjhole of the colored sugars were cleared off. Jftne pale yellow* realising L 37 to L 37 10s ; |tewing crystals, L 37; portions of the whites lealised L3B 10s to L4O, byt the chief lines of these were withdrawn. At the same time the auctioneers offered about 1,500 packages teas, ex Elderslie, of which the best part were cleared off; medium Congous were placed at Is shl to Is 7d; good mediums, Is to Is S.Jd, fine descriptions, Is lid to 2s, these rates comparing favorably with recent quotations. Irrespective ci the auction sales, a fair business has been done >n both items privately. A steadier demand has .been .experienced for spirits. For Hennessy’s brandies, 7* fid to 7s 9d are quotations made, though it is giep#jally understood that sales at * shade below hay.e been made. .Hennessy’s M ie is held for 28s to ,2sa ; other brands, 6d to lower. Genevas have beep quitted at 13s 6(1, And WJ rum IfiOp. at 3s <sd. Galvanised iron and fencing wires remain at last quotations, with no sales of any moment occurring. H.emp goods are also reported as very dull. Light lots are spoken of as having been quitted at 16s to Xfis fid. Woolpack, for the present, neglected. The withdrawal from stocks of a considerable parcel yf kerosene for northern markets has tended to $ rather firmer value. For Devoe’s 2s 2d is now asked, and for Diamond, 2s Id. Of the shipments of salt per Glenary a largo Jot is reported a? placed; late Home advices report this item as sustaining a further advance; parcels of fine coarse proportions in lewt bags are worth Lslos, For shipments to hand 13s fid is asked; no business reported. Hops are dull, and at the moment there is so llttfe inclination to business that holders would, to make sales, concede something upon last quotations. Imported malt liquors in good condition am scarce. Tenncnt’s ale is quoted at 10s fid in bond. Late shipments of stout have proved yery iyd/fferent, nevertheless it has commanded sale (by auction) at f»i r P r i ces - In grain and flour a steady trad/?- First-class .samples of wheats have been placed at 5s fid, and medium samples at 5s ; those figures n|ay be considered present values. There is a little lull in the oat market, and rates are scarcely so firm; fine milling are quoted at is 2d to 4s 3d ; inferior are easier, 4s, and even a lesser figure being taken; it is, however, anticipated that prices will regain firmness. For bailey the cyqu'ny has been small; quotations, 6s 9d to 7s ; no business reported. Flour quotations arc Ll2 10s to 1,13, demand steady. We note shipments of butter as worth Is; cheese, Ud ; (both items in good request.
Mb'ssrs Wright, Stephenson &hd Co. report for the week ending 12th July as follows; Stock. —Fat Cattle: A scanty supply (40 head) caused prises to advance 2s per lOOlbs. •over last week’s r#te.«, Wc quote good quality, 25s to 26s per lOOlbs. < medium do, 21s. IVc also sold privately 45 head for immediate dc’:very at 25s per lOOlbs. Fat Sheep: But a small number came forward. The .only lot penned insisted of 100 cross-bred wethers, good .quality, which we sold at 17a each- We .also sold privately 200 merino wethers at 3d per lb. We quote prime half-breds 3|d per lb; do merinos, 2|d to 3d. Store Cattle: Thera is a ■good demand yrell grown, cattle for paddock fattening. quota bullocks, 3 to 5 years old, L 4; Wt, to L 3 ss, Store filtaep; Business is very limited i n this c^a9S stock, and we have no 'transaction to report. We quote crossbred wethers, 12s to JIB» . lambs, 108', wethers, 7s Od ; do ewes in lamb to Leicester rams, 6a fid to 7s, Horse.) > There is still a fair demand for draughts, and strong light harness Ymm Light find interior animals aro unsaleable.
