To the Editor, Sir, —J was glad when I noticed your advertisement that Mr Clapcott was to continue his entertainments during the winter months. I have been in attendance the last two Friday nights at the Athenaeum Hall, and was highly pleased with the way in which that gentleman read the selections made; a very agreeable way of spending a long wintry evening. Sir, there is a suggestion which I should like to make through your columns, by way of spending a pleasant evening : Would a number of young gentlemen exert themselves to get up a Musical Promenade Concert for a few mouths during the winter in a suitable hall. In Melbourne, Sydney, and Tasmania, a musical promenade concert is given once a fortnight; and they are well attended, especially at the latter place, where they are crowded to excess. And why should the young men of Otago not take the same interest in music as the Tasmanians ? Surely we have musical talent in Dunedin equal to the above-mentioned Colonics; let us have the benefit of it.
