SUPREME COURT.
CRIMINAL SESSION. Wednesday. July 0. (Before his Honor Mr Justice Chapman.) SENTENCES. Hugh Faulkner and Donald Palmer, who pleaded guilty at the sitting of the Court, on Monday, the former to a charge of theft, and the latter to one of fraud and imposition, were brought up this morning and sentenced each to twelve mouths’ imprisonment. CRIMINAL ASSAULT. William Huff was indicted that he did, at Clyde, in the hotel known as the old Bandigo Hotel, between 7 p.m, on tlie 3rd aud 7 a m. on the 4th May hut, criminally assault a girl named Sarah Patterson, daughter of James Patterson, hotelkeeper, Clyde, she being then under the age of twelve years, to wit. of the age of six years and ten months Mr Stout appeared for the prisoner. The circumstances of the case are these ; On the evening name! in the indictment, prisoner slept at the Old Bendigo Hotel, the girl aud her brother sleeping in an adjoining room. During the night prisoner visited the room occupied by the latter, on which occasion the off nee is alleged to have been committed. The jury found the prisoner “guilty of an attempt to commit rape,” Sentence deferred.
