Tuesday, Tuly 8. (Before His Worship the Mayor.) Drunkenness. Jas. Stafford and Christian t’iauaon were each fined ss, with the usual alternative; and John Wilson, alias William Wilson, alias James B. Hotson, 20s, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. The Robin Hood Hotel Disturbance.— Robt. Bird was charged with making use of obscene language within the hearing of persons passing by the Robin Hood, in York place, on June 20th.—Sub-Inspector Mallard explained that this case was a sequel to one heard some time ago.—William Wilson was residing in the Robin Hood in the month of June. He went homo on the night in question, a few minutes before nine, and shortly afterwards accused came into the house, and made use of the language complained of to a Mr and Mrs Payne, who occupied the premises. Anyone passing in tho street could have heard the language which defendant used.—ln answer to the Bench, Sub-Inspector Mallard said that there was no evidence to prove that the language was heard in the street : they had been unable toprocureit.—Constable Beasley could prove that there had been a disturbance that night, but he was not present when the language complained of was used. —His Worship pointed out that tho Ordinance said “ within the hearing of persons passing,” but as that was not proved, the evidence was not sufficient to obtain a conviction. The case would therefore be dismissed. Bye-Law Care, —Henry Jones, a cabman, for plying for hire off the licensed stand, was fipod 10s and costs.
