Mr Frederick H. Evans reports that South British Insurance shares have been placed by him during the week at L2 5s and L2 6s. Sellers are offering at L2 6s, and there are no lack of buyers at L2 ss. National Bank shares are are now more inquired after, and may be quoted as follows; —Sellers at 5s premium ; buyers, 3s to 4s. This price will be improved upon, owing to the facilities now offered for prompt transfers —a want we have previously suffered from. Shotovers still keep in strong favor, although not so much business has been done the last day or two, in consequence of holders (it would almost seem by concerted effort) raising the price; however, the prophets foretel a good result for the first wash-up, which will take place soon ; these may be quoted at from 17s to 18s, 10s paid up. Now that mining stock is gradually getting into favor, it is not out of place to mention that a few Gabriel’s Gully shares are offered for sale, a cake of gold from which was recently exhibited in Princes street. New Zealand Bank shares could I>e sold if there were any sellers here. Albion Coal Company’s shares have maintained a stand at 2s premium; and Arrow Gold Mining shares follow suit. Altogether the share market in Dunedin seems in a very healthy state; no undue excitement appearing at present.
