Tuesday, June 24. (Before his Worship the Mayor.) Drunkenness. —Alex. Campbell was fined 10s, with the option of forty-eight hours’ira prisonment; and Colin M’Donald, against whom there were forty previous convictions for various offences, 40s, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labor. Fraudulent Representations.— Charles Percy Birbeck, alias Hopkins, was charged with having, on the 12th instant, obtained board and lodging to the amount of L 3 from Thomas Hetherington, by means of fraudulent representations. It appeared that the accused, a lad about eighteen years of age, went to the Shamrock Hotel, representing himself as a nephew of Mr John Hyde Han is, and by that means managed to , obtain board and lodging to the amount stated. On inquiries being instituted, it came out that his statements were entirely untrue. His Worship took into account accused’s youth, and sentenced him to the lightest term of imprisonment allowable—viz., twenty-hours. Theft. —C. P. Birbeck was further charged with stealing from the Red Lion Hotel, Stafford street, one shirt valued 7s 6d, the property •! of John Craddock Towle, on or about the 23rd instant. On this charge he was sentenced to a like term of imprisonment.
