IS KISSING A SIN? Oh, wha is it dares to ca’ kissing a sin ? Oh, wha is it dares to ca’ kissing a sin ? Though we’re mostly alane, When it’s aftenest dune, For a’ that, wha is there dare ca’ it a sin ? I doubt na’, when Adam an’ Eve met thegither, The first thing they did was to kiss ane anither, An, thmkin’ it fine. Like thcmsel’s, maist divine, Fell in each other’s arms an’ kiss’d other again. If there e’er was a man would look backwards an’ fear To steal a bit kiss noo an’ then fra his dear, Mar the wretched auld sinner Ne’er manage to win her, Who he thinks without kissing will yet be his ain. What matter though they look sour now an’ then, Toss their heads an’ vow they care nothing for men; When the opposite sex is Inclined to perplex us, It is only because they want kissing again. They tease us because they want kissing again, Because they want kissing and touzling again; Let auld maids mak’ faces Auld bachelors grimaces, ’Tis the want o’t mak’s them look sae wrinkled an’ thin. Then wha is it dares to ca’ kissing a sin ? Then wha is it dares to oa’ kissing a sin ? Although mostly alane, When it’s aftenest dune, Yet. nae’theless nane dare ca’ it a sin. —Cowper Speabpoint.
