ELECTION INTELLIGENCE
Our Queenstown correspondent telegraphed yesterday afternoon :—“MrMaoandrew polls a majority throughout the district, despite strong opposition. Mr Hallenstein has issued placards, ‘Vote for Macandrew and Hallenstein.’ ” i Mr Shepherd addressed a large meeting of the electors at Alexandra yesterday, immediately after the declaration of the poll for the Superintendency. A vote of confidence was carried by a large majority. The following resolution was also moved and carried without a dissentient voice;—“ That this meeting, understanding that a number of voters will be brought from the Kawarau district to vote at the forthcoming Dunstan election, hereby protest against the same, as an unfair interference with the representation of the district.” The voters referred to are holders of miners’ rights, and it is generally known that they will come from the Nevis. Beth candidates have met the electors throughout the district.
