WASTE LAND BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Waste Land Board was held yesterday. There were present—Messrs J, T. Thomson (in the chair), (Strode, Tolmie, and Butterworth. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for .v essrs J. and A. M'Lean, applied to have section li, block 7, Papakaio district, sold at 10s per acre. The application was approved; tne Government to be asked whether the res. rve at the Bridge is to be laid out into a township or not. Mr W. Dalrymple, jun., as agent for Mr Wm Telford, appeared to oppose the granting of a lease of Totara Island to Mr Hobson, and to request that the Island be sold in one or more lots. It was decided to let the matter stand over till the report of the ranger was TGCGIVCd Mr Donald Munro applied to purchase a piece of clear land, part of the bush reserve adjoining his property, section 37, block 1, Otepopo, or thirty acres of the bush reserve, to include the clear land. It wrs referred to the Banger for report as to the propriety of cutting up the whole reserve into small sections. The Secretary of the Tapanui Progress Committee requested that when the sections now being surveyed are offered for sale, valuation may be allowed for improvements made and buildings erected thereon. The Board regretted that it could not accede to the request of protecting parties from competition. The sale was ordered to take place at Tapanui , Mr John Mayer applied to purchase a piece of land at the Water of Leith. Mr k. Bossbotham objected, and requested to nave the ground surveyed and be allowed to purchase the same, ho being owner of the adjoining allotment of which it is the frontage. Both applications were declined.

A report from the District Land Officer, on the application of Mr John Arthur to par* chase the site on which his house was erected, was received. The ground was ordered to be surveyed at applicant’s expense, and put up to auction with valuation added to the upset .price, it being understood that applicant was in possession of a miner's right. A petition to have certain lan <s recently surveyed west of Wairuna Hundred opened for sale on deferred payments, was postponed. The recommendation of Ranger Valpy, and letters from the Clerk to the oad Board and Mr J. Henderson were read, asking that sections 29, block I, Akatore district, should be withdrawn from sde until a road be surveyed to a quarry and bush. It was decided that the section be reserved from sale. Mr D . Cameron asked that he might take uo the pre empuve rights for runs .198 and 423 in one block of 1,280 acres on oue of tee ruus. The Board decided they bad no power to act in the matter. Objections from M J ts. J.
