THE COUNTRY.
Portobello.— At a meeting held on Thursday for the purpose of electing a member for the Portobello sub-division of the district Road Board, the following gentlemen were proposed and seconded Mr W. A. Wilson, Mr Joseph Young, and Mr Thomas Geary. The returning officer (Mr J. M‘Cartney), having called for a show of hands for the different candidates, the following was the result• W. A Wilson, 13 ; Young, 3; Geary, 6. A poll was demanded on behalf of Mr Geary, but immediately withdrawn, when Mr Wilson was declared duly elected.
