Great was the excitement when onr extra of Saturday morning last was posted announcing that Government had decided to dissolve the Council, and only one opinion was expressed, that our late member, Mr Hallenstein, would stand no chance of reelection. The famous notice of motion re the Falls Bridge had filled the cup to overflowing, and the delay and inconvenience to public business in consequence of the dissolution was overlooked in view of the opportunity afforded of getting rid of the obnoxious member. —Arrow Observer.

Messrs Reid, bhand, and Allan offer them* selves for the Taieri district.

Mr John M‘Neill, Mayor of Balclntba, has been requested to stand for the Olutha district, and it is stated that the Hon. Major Richardson will offer himself for Waitahuna. The Olutha nomination takes place on the 6th inst., and the poll on the 14tb. Our Nasehy correspondent telegraphs, under date of yesterday, as follows: “ There was a public meeting here last night, convened by the Mayor. 200 persons were present. The meeting unanimously pledged itself.to support candidates in the Macandrew interest, but would not support any particular candidate until his views were known. Mr Armstrong attempted several times to obtain a hearing, but was received with hissing and hooting. The meeting wm very rowdy. The nomination and polling days are the 13th and I6tb respectively, Mr de Latour has announced himself as a candidate in the local interest.” The candidates for the Moeraki district, who have announced themselves, are Messrs D. Hutcheson, W. J. Steward and W. Murcott. Rumor says that there is to be a fourth, the name mentioned being that of Mr C. deV. Teschemaker. The nomination takes place on the 14th, and the polling on the 19th.

The North Otago Times mentions as an o# dit that Mr M'Lean will be opposed for Oamaru Town. The nomination takes place on the 11th, and the poll on the 16th ; the nomination for Oamaru Country on the 12th, and the poll on. the 17th ; and the nomination for Waitaki on the 2lst, and the poll oq the 23rd.
