MR REYNOLDS AND THE WATERWORKS

To the Editor.

Sin,—Mr Reynolds is in error in stating that his proposition was not entertained by the directors of the Waterworks Company. It was talked over, but he wished it to have precedence of another motion, which the chairman objected to. Mr Reynolds then left without his formally bringing his proposition before the chairman. It is needless to state that Mr Sherwin is not in the confidenc*<of the board; yet the day after the meeting of the directors, whose proceedings were of a confidential character, he asks a question, showing that he had been told of what took place. In answer, I deem it incumbent on me to say that the chairman did not refuse to put any resolution of Mr Rey- & nolds. Why negotiations between the Waterworks Company and the Corporation should be made the subject of an evidently pre-arranged plan of Questions and answers at a political meeting held by the Colonial Secretary is not apparent. It can scarcely be imagined that one director who hai been six or eight months away can be the only one of seven who, in taking a position opposed to the views of the other six, is acting in the interests of the shareholders ; it may be inferred that some other motive is more .powerful-—1 am, Ac., A Director.
