Wellington, May 21. No formal decision has yet been anivtd at, but there is no doubt but that the Cabinet will grant Mr Macandrew’s request for a dissolution of the Otago Council. In tbe Court of Appeal, in the case Holmes v. Kolleston. the Judges upheld the demurrer with costs.

Yesterday an engine and eight trucks passed ten miles along the Southern Railway Extension to Rakait, and across the Bakaia bridge. The line will be opened for traffic in a few days. Thirty salmon ova have been hatched out. A fire on the Papanui road, three-quarters of a mile from the centre of the City, occurred at twenty minutes past six this evening. It originated in a stable; there was a brick building oh one aid#, and d riglj t-of-way on the other side, thus the flames were easily stopped. The damage consists of Mr Simpson's grocer's shop slightly damaged; the stable, one horse, quantity of hay and Eotatoes destroyed; Mr Viney’s confectioner’s rick shop, shingle roof, almost gutted. In boils cases the stock-in-trade was all re* ntaved by the fire police. The total damage will not exceed LSQQ, The Liverpool, Lon* don, aud Globe office loses a* swill afgoqq| on Viney’s stock, None of the other offices are affected.
