RULES.
All boats to be subject to the approval of the Sailing Committee. At ten a.m., the flag for the first race will be hoi* ted on the flagship. On the first gun being fired, the boats will take up their respective places alio tel them by the judges; on the second they will start (weigh or slip optional). Guns will be fired to arfnounce the first boat in each race.
The distinguishing flags fo" each race will be the signals in Marryat’a code, in the order in which they are on the card. Each signal will bo hoisted at the maintopmasthead of the flagship. Each race will have a distinguishing flag. All in the race are requested to pay attention to the same. Each pulling boat to carry a distinguishing flag at the bow, of not less than ten inches by twelve inches, six inches clear of the gunwale. Each sailing boat to carry a distinguishing flag at the masthead or peak, not less than two feet by eighteen inches. All boats in rounding the flag-buoys and flagship to keep them on the Starboard baud while doing so. Any boat wilfully fouling another boat to be disqualified. No sailing boat allowed to take in or throw out any ballast during the race. No salt water ballast allowed, nor oars to bo nsei under any circumstances. Centre-boards to be sealed up or down, at the owner’s option. No equate rails nor booming out of jibs allowed. Boats running free to give way for those on a wind : boats on the port tack to bear up for those on the starbpard tack. If any false start occurs, a yellow flag will be hoisted as a recall
Should the day prove unfavorable, an American ensign will be hoisted on the flag* ship from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., and the Regatta postponed until the following fine day. A chequered flag will bo hoisted during luncheon.
Three boats to start, or no race. All entrances, with entrance money, also the name of each boat and distinguishing color, to be sent under cover, addressed to the Secretary at Dench’s Hotel, not later than Friday evening, 23rd instant.
