The brigantine Ottawa got under weigh this morning', and sailed out bound for Timaru with her cargo of coal , , . The City of Bombay was towed to sea at daylight this morning, hound to London. She takes a large general cargo, consisting of 7,706 bags of wheat 251 tons preserved meats, 88£ tons tauow. 1,113 Dales of wool, 35 bales leather, and 142 hides. The next vessel to follow the Bombay will be the Lutterworth, which is filling up The Storm Bird, for the Bluff, steamed down to the Heads on Saturday night, and anchored inside,; owing to the heavy sea on the bar, and sailed on Sunday morning, the sea having gone down considerably. Quoting the report of Messrs J. Peet and Co., Batavia, dated Ist. March, the Arr/us BOT3 The Black Watch has been chartered for the lump sum of L 1,600, to convey to Sydney and Dunedin the cargo and passengers of the Whirlwind, from Hong Kong, which vessel was unable to prosecute her voyage.” The Samson returned from Oamaru at 3 a.m. on Sunday, and berthed alongside the Port Chalmers jetty. She left Oamam at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday, and experienced strong sou’-wes-terly winds till arrival. Captain Ldie reports the sea still very heavy in the Oamaru roadstead, so much so that he was two days discharging, and left without taking anything in. The New Zealand Company’s steamer Taranaki arrived in Fort Chalmers at 8 o’clock this morning. The Heads were reached on Sunday evening at 6 o’clock, where she remained during the night. The Taranaki left the Manukau on the 12th at 10 a.m., and arrived at Taranaki at 6 a.m. on the 13th ; left at 9 a.m., and arrived at Nelson at midnight; left there at 8.30 p.m. on the 14th, and arrived at Picton at 5 a.m. on the 15th; left at 7 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at noon ; left at 8 p.m. the same day, and arrived at Lyttelton at 9 p.m. on the 16th ; left again at 2 p.m. on the 17th, and arrived as above, having had fine calm weather to Wellington, and from thence to Otago strong sou’westerly gales with heavy sea.
