Commercial.
The amount of revenue received at the Cus-tom-house on goods cleared for consumption this day, was L 1,454 15s 7d. Messrs Driver, Stewart, and Co. report for the week ending May 7 : Stock.— Fat Cattle :80 head were yarded at the Kaikorai to-day, which (with the exception of a few pens) were but medium quality. The lot was, however, cleared at prices ranging from L 4 to L 6 10s for cows, and L 5 to L 7 10s for bullocks, or equal to about 20s per lOOlbs. We sold at the yards 25 head of cattle and 10 calves, and privately 30 head cattle at current rates. Fat Sheep: Owing to the bad weather, no sheep were penned at the weekly sale. We have sold privately 1,000 merinos and 500 crossbreds, and quote prime mutton, say—crossbreds at 2id to 2jfd, and merinos at 2]d per lb. Store Cattle : There is good demand for quiet grown cattle, with but few offering. We have sold a few mixed lots. Store Sheep : A fair demand continues for almost eveiy class of cheep, particularly cross-breds and young merinos. We quote cross-bred wethers at 10s 6d to 12s ; do ewes in lamb, 15s to 17s (id, according to quality ; do lambs, 8s Gd to 9s; young merino wethers and ewes, Gs Gd to 7s Gd; full-mouthed do, 4s Gd to 5s Gd. We have sold 1,200 full-mouthed ewes, in lamb, at Gs to 7s ; 1,000 full-mouthed wethers, at Gs ; 1,000 young do, at 7s ; and 500 old ewes, at 4s. ■ Wool.—lntelligence per cable, dating April 24, announces the opening of the second series of wool sales for this year on that day. The total arrivals for those sales were 200,000 bales, of which, on the date referred to, 6,500 (chiefly Victorian) were offered. The attendance of buyers was large, and the competition active, at fully February rates. Notwithstanding the somewhat favorable nature of above advices, our local market continues exceedingly dull. To-day we submitted to auction 270 bales, comprising a large proportion of choice scoured sorts; but the bidding was utterly devoid of spirit, and only a few bales were disposed of, of which prices are annexed. Greasy, various brands, 20 bags, at 3d to 9d per lb. Mixed, JS, 1 bale, 11 gd; do, GT, 1 do, 7id; reasy, J, 1 do. 7|d ; do. dingy mixed, Hawea, do, B|d ; do pieces, do, 1 do, sid ; do locks and black, K, 1 do, 4d ; do fleece, K in square, 1 do, 10gd; mixed, WTO. 1 do, 7-id; scoured lambs, B over D, 3 do, 21|d ; greasy fleece, R in diamond, 10 do, 10(d; greasy fleece, JC, 4 do, 9jd; do cross-bred, do, 2 do, Is ; do fleece, horseshoe, 6 do, B^d; do mixed, L, 2 bags, Sheepskins at auction to-day were fairly competed for, and realised equal to late rates. Hides are in good demand. We sold one small lot at 20s 9d. Tallow: None offered. Demand alight. New Zealand Hemp.— No sales to report. Grain. —Wheat continues in fair request at from 4s Gd to 4s 9d for good to prime milling, inferior smutty, from 3s 3d to 4s. Barley: None offering. Oats are Grin at 3s 2d to 3s 3d for feed, and 3s 4d to 3s 5d for prime milling qualities.
