Invercargill, May 5
The ova, ex Oberon, was conveyed from the special train to the ponds in handbarrows. The process of opening and placing the ova in water has been going on all day. At 7.15 p.m. fully half had been finished. Some of the boxes are quite gone ; others contained a proportion of live eggs, but Mr Howard cannot yet say what per centage.
Auckland, May 6,
- Hone te One has returned from Te Kuiti. He says the meeting *is over, and Tatrtmio refuses to give the murderers up. When last heard of, they wore carrying Sullivan’s head and heart a present to Mannhiri or the Princess Sophia. Tawbaio sent a letter inviting them to come to Te Kuiti. Later rumors say that another meeting is to be held to-morrow to rediscuss giving up the murderers.
Napier, May 5,
The Native meeting yesterday resolved to petition for a new Land Commission and a New Native Lands Act. Several expressed the belief that New Zealand was mortgaged for a million loan, which, if not paid, New Zealand would be seized ; and if the lan ■ were not sufficient, that ,their houses and cattle would be taken.
