At a recent temperance f<sfce .at the Crystal Palace there were tens of thousands of people who had journeyed some of them hundreds of miles, to attend the fete. The chief feature in the day’s proceedings was a concert of 5,000 voices in the grand orchestra. The voices were chiefly those of children who had been selected from provincial “ Bands of Hope,” and trained by the Rand of Hope Union, and the singing was peculiarly touching. The sight of the children, ranged in sections, rank above rank, most of them well dressed, and highly decorated, was of itself a treat. One remarkable feature of the festival was that by arrangement no intoxicating liquor was sold within thd palace or grounds during the day. The rule was adhered to, much to the heartily expressed disgust of the non-tcetotal visitors. The numbers present were :—By season tickets, 13,187 ; on payment, 49,093. Total visitors, 62,280.
