REGINA V. RYAN.
To the Editor.
Sir —My attention has been called to a statement made by Detective Farrell in the case of Regina v. Ryan, in which the said Farrell is prosecutor, wherein Farrell stated that I wrote a blackguard letter to the press, and that one of the evening papers published it. If writing a letter of facts, if criticising a peace officer’s evidence, and that impartially, be blackguardism, then Dr Johnson has certainly made a mistake in the interpretation of the words. There is one part of Farrell’s evidence gratify ing to me, viz., that after the lapse of seven years, Farrell owns the truth, and this in a Court of Justice —owns that he did assault mo in that cowardly and unmanly way, owns what, on his oath, before Mr Strode, R.M., he denied.—l am, &c., J. A. Di-UKY. Tuapeka, April 17.
