The amount of revenue received at the Cus-tom-house on goods cleared for consumption this day, was L 256 15s 7d.
The land sale at Driver, Stewart and Co.’s, to-day, was Very largely attended. The sole room was crowded, and many were unable to obtain admittance. The first property offered was nine quarter-acre sections with frontages to Clyde, St. David, and Forth streets. Section 26, the pick of the block, was started at LIOO, and knocked down at L 243 to Mr George Elliot, who purchased No. 50 at the same figure. L2OO was offered for a hill section, and L 245 for another, and refused. *' What a price !” said a bystander when the first section was knocked down; “ five years ago I could have bought the ten sections for L 500.” The township of South Dunedin was afterwards offered, and up to 3.30 the following had been sold : Sections 1 to 7, block 1, average price L6O, highest bid L7O; sections 1 to 7, block 3, average L6l lls sd, highest bid L 65 ; sections 1 to 7, block 4, average L 72, highest bid L9l. There have been several parcels offered, but transactions have not been large. Best milling sorts are worth 4s Bd, and good ordinary 4s 6d. Oats have almost come to ft standstill. Holders are unwilling to dispose of their stocks under 3s, and at this price there are no buyers of parcels. Trade dealers manage tb get what they require at 2s lOd to 3s.
