Tipene Unuku (Old Stepheu) died at Taranaki on the 18th inst. The old chief was nearly 100 years of age, A cynical bachelor, in speaking of ladies’ ball-dresses, says: “They wear but little here below, bnt they wear that little long.” Among the individuals summoned to the County Court, Geelong, was a young man named Leich, the sou of an English nobleman. A verdict in the suit was recorded against him for the sum of 1.3. The defendant alleged that he had only earned about L 25 during the past twelve months, and had boon laid up for some twelve months by the bite of a scorpion.
