[From the New Zealand Press Association.) Wellington, April 5. The Governor has received a telegram from Earl Kimberley that Governor Fergusson will leave England on the 18th of April. Mr Vogel has endeavored unsuccessfully to induce Mr Fox to retain the Premiership.; but the latter te«<lerp4 his resignation to the Governor, and that Mr Vogel should be sent for. This was done, and Mr Vogel consented to accept the Premiership, if he found himself able to construct a Ministry. Negotiations are pending, The Luna has sailed for Dunedin with the Minister of Public Works, who goes there to complete the purchase of the Port Chalmers railway. Christchurch, Aprils. Mr Peacock has resigned his seat in the Assembly for Lyttelton, Mr Webb, who represents the town in the Provincial Council, is a candidate. Efforts are being made to establish a Paper Manufacturing Company.
Messrs Beath and Co. offer a reward of LSO for the discovery of the person who caused the late fire. Queenstown, April 5. The news has been received here of Mr Hallenstein’s intended resignation, which ii traces from Tuapeka, and is a canard. M G. B. Barton would, however, have stood no chance. Mr Hallenetein does not resign this session, but attends the Assembly at considerable inconvenience. '1 he crops have been over-estimated. Farm work is being briskly pursued, but labor is much wanted.
