Wellington, April 4. Nothing is settled as yet regarding the reconstruction of the Cabinet. The Government is not favorable to Messrs Gibbs, Bright, and Co.’s offer for the conveyance of immigrants. Mr Webb has telegraphed asking to be released from the penalties foi breaking his contract, but the Government is not likely to comply. The last month’s subsidy was stopped. M r Shephard, of Nelson, will not get a seat in the Ministry.
Auckland, April 4. The Nebraska leaves to-night for the South at eleven.
A party of experienced miners, accompanied by the Provincial Government Agent, are going to Whangarei to prospect the re ported auriferous district. The Church of England mission station at Kaitakia has been burned. The Rev. Mr Pucki y, occupant of the station for over forty years, lost everything, including an excellent library and organ. Tokomairiro, Ap'il 5. Mr Murray, member for Bruce, had a large and influential meeting last night He spoke for two hours and a half, and was patiently listened to, his address being frequently applauded. A vote of thanks and confidence was unanimously carried. Mr H. Clark, M.P.C., was chairman.
