WASTE LAND BOARD.
At the usual weekly meeting of the Board to-day, there were present—The Chief Commissioner in the chair, Messrs Clark, Butterworth, and Tolmie. Mr Geo. Mackay applied for a sawmill license for an eight horse-power mill in the Clarendon district. Granted on the usual terms, to commence on July 1. Connell and Moodie, for James Rodgers, applied to purchase ten acres adjoining sections 59 and 60, block 14, Glenkenich, with the runholder’s consent. The land was ordered to be sold by auction, first being surveyed by the applicant ; upset price Ll per acre, with survey and improvements added, to be paid to the applicant on the fall of the hammer, if he bo not the purchaser.—The same firm applied, on behalf of John Barraclough, to have section 2 of 22, block 7, Oamaru, put up for sale. It was ordered to be put up for sale by auction, at the npset price of 30s an acre. David Aitken and William Barker’s application for a license for a sawmill at the foot of the falls, Butcher’s Creek, Upper Shotover, and for a right to construct a w’aterrace, about 600 yards long, at the same place, was referred to the Warden. The application of C. S. Worth to purchase a site for a mill and brewery on section 6, block 1, Tigerhill, and for authority to bring the mill-raoe through section 1, block 1, was referred to the Warden. Daniel Clarke objected to the charge of LlO 17s 6d for survey of section 78, block 3, Waipalii, on the ground that the land is virtually surveyed already. His proposition that the land should be considered surveyed was refused.
Joseph and John Tamblyn’s application to purchase about twelve acres of block 2, Mt. Benger district, occupied by them, was referred to the Warden : runholder’s consent to be obtained.
John Lawson’s application for an additional 120 acres to his saw-mill license, lower Waipori bush, Maungatua district, was granted on the usual terms : to commence on July 1. The recommendation of the Government jihat sections 10 and 11, block 2, Ettrick, sliould be' offered for' sale at L 5 per section, was ! agreed to. James Drysdale’s request that a road line loading to section 4, block 4, Moeraki district,' which it has been decided to close, should be sold by auction, was referred to the Government.
Hanger Heighan reported on the application of Mr John M‘l can to purchase part of the bush reserve, block 1, Wyndham. Application refused. The recommendation of the Government that Mr Denis Powell should bo appointed auctioneer for the Wakatip district was approved. Warden Beetham reported on the proposal to grant Mr P. B. Boult a lease of part of the township reserve, block 3, mid-Wakatip. Application refused. A letter from the Hon. Captain Fraser, relative to the survey of his pre-emptive right, Lake Hawea, was read, Ik was resolved to recommend Mr Connell to send plans through the district surveyor, and by mutual consent.
The application of Wright Lowe, to purchase section 8, block 5, Tuapeka East, held under agricultural lease, was granted. That of J*.'D. Feraud, for whom Mr M Keay appeared, to purchase sections 35, 30, 38, 39, 40, and 70, block 1, Leaning Lock, sections 32 to 40 and 102, block 2 do, was refused. Leases to be cancelled.
The following applications to exchange goldfields' leases for leases under the Waste Lands Act,'lS72, were granted .-—Martin Ryan, sections 3 to 7, block 4, Waitahuna East; David Evans, sections 41 to 45, block 3, Tuapoka East; W. Wescott, sections 21, 22, and 27, block 1, Beugcr district.
The recommendation of the Government, as to the creation of land districts, and appointment of land officers was next considered. The following appointments, as recommended by the Superintendent, were made :—District Laud Officer for Lawrence, MrPyke; Hindon, Mr Willis ; Nascby, Mr Robinson; Queenstown, Mr Beetham,
