HISTORICAL FACTS.

To the Editor,

Sir, — It is strange that daring the last 300 years only in three instances a son followed his father on the French throne. I give the following particulars : —ln 1514, Louis XU. died ; he was succeeded by his son, Henry 111 This king was followed by his brother, Francois 11, and same again by his brother, Charles IX., who is celebrated for the St. Bartholomew night; he was succeeded on the throne of France by his brother-in-law, Henri IV"., whose son, Louis XUI, succeeded him, and, in the third instance, this monarch was succeeded by his son, Louis XIV, called le grand Monarque ; since then no son has followed his father on the throne. Louis XV. was grandson of Louis XIV. Louis XVX, again, was grandson of Louis XV. Louis XVII never reigned. Between these two comes the Republic of 1789-1804 ; then Napoleon 1., Emperor, followed by Louis XVIII., brother of Louis XVI; again followed by Ij.is brother, Charles X, whose sou, the Luc d’.Angoulgme, fell with his father, Charles X, in the Revolution of 1830 ; then Louis Philippe to 1848 ; afterwards, Republic to 1852; Napoleon 111., Emperor, from 1852—1870, succeeded, by Republic. Will tffie squ of Napoleon 111. eyfer reign iq Prance ? But even if qe should do so still the historical parts, as stated, are the same, as he did not follow his father directly on the throne, —I am, &c., J.H.
