Wellington, March 22,
A small steam launch, about 3 tons burthen, imported by the Forfarshire, left for Auckland to-day under steam, with three persons aboard. It is expected that the voyage will last about ten days, A match was rowed this afternoon between the Stella and the Dolly Yarden. The latter won by about six lengths. The distance was the same as at the last Champion race, and the time was 18min. 2secs. Captain Fox, of tho Forfarshire, is fined Ll2 10s each on four informations for breach of the Passengers’ Act, in not giving the passengers sufficient water during the voyage. The Assistant Law Officer stated that the Government intend to proceed in every case reported of any breach of the Act. The Bench thought the captain was only to blame for not having put into some port for water, but that a serious amount ot blame was attachable to the owners or charterers.
