THE DUNEDIN RACES.

(By Prize Seeker.)

Since the date of my last contribution, there is little to communicate. The horses, one and all, have been doing their work satisfactorily and improving their condition, but none of them have changed positions in the estimation of racing or betting men. Many of them arc strangers, some are wholly unknown to fame, while there are only a few whoso previous performances beget confidence. There is, therefore, a great difficulty in anticipating results, even with the experience of the past week’s work. Bookmakers are even holding off, while investors in the Derby and Calcutta sweeps are wary. It may therefore be said that, while most of the horses mentioned in my last continue popular, not one of them is a favorite. Last evening there was some difficulty in getting off even guinea sweeps on the different events, and, judging by the prices obtained, I must say, that the information published in this morning’s STAR* so far as the names of the horses that stand highest in public favor are concerned, is reliable, I may add, that the race-course is in splendid condition, and that the accommodation for visitors on the grand stand, and elsewhere, has been considerably improved.
