THE COLONIAL PRIZE FIRING.
(By Telegraph.) Nelson, March 17. Mr Scale’s second match was at ranges of 300, 400, ami 500 yards ; the same sights as the first match. Douglas, No. 1 C.G., was was first with 97 points ; Melsopp, of Auckland, second, with 9G : and J. Buchanan, Otago, third, with 95. The presentation of prizes was made by Lieut.-Col. Richmond, C. B , and Mis A. Richmond, on Saturday afternoon, in the Botanical Gardens. Major Gordon, in returning thauks on behalf of the Volunteers, referred to'the almost regal hospitality shown by the Nelson people. Captain Wales called for three cheers for the Nelson people, three for Col. Richmond, three for Mrs Richmond and the la lies of Nelson, and three for Major Gordon’s most satisfactory arrangements at the firing, 'the meeting was highly successful, the attendance being large and the weather fine throughout.
