FURTHER FALL OF WOOL. EXTENSIVE FRAUDS ON THE ENGLISH BANKS. London, March 2. Mr Macfie’s annnal motion, in reference to the Colonies, has been brought forward in the House of Commons, The mover shaped his motion so as to have especial reference to the question of emigration and occupation of waste lands. The motion was negatived, and the House bestowed little encouragement on Mr Macfie to proceed to a discussion of the subject. Sir Charles Adderley styled the debate as sentimental exercitations ; and Viscount Bury, on behalf of the Colonial institute, disavowed any sympathy with the motion. Sir James M'Culloch and Mr Daintree, Agent-General for Queensland, have been presented at Court. The German Currency Bill establishes a single gold standard.

Discount moderate. The rate is unchanged. The stock market is depressed. The activity exhibited at the opening of the wool sales was well maintained, but a further decline of three halfpence since the opening is reported, particularly of greasy sorts, owing to the large stocks on hand, and the restricted competition on the part of the French buyers. For good washed combing sorts, the reaction is comparatively less than as regards clothing descriptions. Tallow is lower ; petroleum, weak ; sperm oil, L 95 ; hides, firm ; w'hcat, dull. March 3. The T ondon bankers have been extensively defrauded by the circulation of forged bills, and Lr.0,000 worth of forged American bonds having been placed on the market. A Mr Lugardi, charged with defrauding Messrs Glyu, bankers, has absconded, and his bail, £12,000, has been estreated. The Spanish Government asked the Cortes for a credit vote of four millions for the mobilisation of 45,000 Volunteers, to enable the regular troops vigorously to attack the Carlists. There is a great depression in railway stock. The Grand Duke Nicholas of Russia has gone to Turkistan. The Irish Catholic prelates arc petitioning Parliament for an amendment of the Irish University Bill. In the House of Commons, Lord Enfield, replying to a question by Mr White well, said the Government considered that no recognisable Government had been constituted in Spain. Owing to the discussion on the Irish University Bill, Mr Gladstone promised modifications in Committee. Professor Fawcett opposed the Bill, March 4. Forged bills, to the amount of LSOJIOO have been discounted by the Bank of England, The perpetrators of the forgeries are Americans. Pauis, March 4. The Republicans in the Assembly arc dissatisfied with M. Dufaure’s speech, and insist on further explanations from M, Thiers, Washington, March 3. Both Houses of Congress passed a resolution, congratulating the Spanish people on the establishment of a Republic.
