It is understood that the geological survey of Groat Britain is about to I'e extended to Suffolk. Mr Whittaker, F.G S., of the Geological Survey, has taken up his quarters in Ipswich for the purpose of prospecting, and in a few months a staff of geologists will arrive to assist. Mr Whittaker is at present inspecting the geological features of the tract o* country between the Stour and the An ingenious election trick has transpired in connection with the Liverpool municipal elections. Amongst the Liberal voters in one of the wards was an “ illiterate ” drayman, who entered the booth with liberal colors flying, and an enormous sunflower in fijs hp'fetpn-hpis. He wao auectipnateiy- received by the Conservative agent, who asked for which candidate he wivhed to vote. reply was, of course, for the Liberal, upon which the agent s-»id, “ Cross off the Tory chap, then.” The diayman did so, ar.d was thus the unwitting means of adding one vote to the candidate who was his political opponent.
