Wellington, February 25. It is rumored that there is a serious split in the Cabinet, which will probably lead to the retirement of at least two Ministers.

The Regatta Committee have added a whale boat gig race for L2O to its programme, provided three boats starts, and two Provinces are represented. Entries will he received up to Thursday. February 26.

The Club entertained the Covernor at a farewell dinner last night. The attendance was large.

The weather is excessively hot. Yesterday, at the Newmarket Cattle Show, five bullocks died of sunstroke. Eleven were restored with difficulty.

Late heavy rains have destroyed all the crops on the plains. The Natives are the severest sufferers owing to their having left home and neglected their crops to attend the sitting of the Land Commission It is feared they will suffer serious hardship during winter.
