Wellington, February 22. It was tbe doctor, and not the captain of the Christian M‘Ausland who reported to the Government regarding the condition in which immigrants by that vessel were shipped. . . Mr Vogel is likely to remain a few days m Sydney, to arnngo with the Government about the San Francisco service. The .Sydney papers publish a letter from Messrs Vogel and Reynolds to Mr Parkes, proposing that New Bouth Wales should join New Zealand in the maintenance of Webb s line, and that the boats should run in the manner provided in the provisional contract between Messrs Vogel .and Duffy last year, Sydney being substituted for Melbourne. They estimate that such a service could be obtained for a subsidy of from L 45.000 to to L 50,000 a year, and if the Imperial Government pay L2(),000 of the am ■>nut, they undertake that New Zedand shall pay the balance, the only charge made upon New South Wales for the use of the line being the postage upon letters carried to the extent of 1.5,000; New Zealand also to retain the postage foes received from the other Colonies. They further offer to fix a time table so as to give Sydney the benefit of a fortnightly service. Februaiy 24. The Canterbury cows, with their four boats, for the Interprovincial Regatta, arrived by the t aranaki yesterday.
