Drcnkknnkss. —Joseph Brown, Patrick Francis, William Bui field, and John Brown were fined os each, in default, twenty-four hours imprisonment; Mary Jarvey and Haaiet Farra, old offenders, 40s, or fourteen days.
ExmsiMi ms Prison. —James Russell was discharged with a caution, Da mac. Iso Gov «uhm knt Property. Alfred Richens, one of Brogdeu’s navviei, was charged with breaking eight panes of glass, of the value of 20s, in the Immigrafion Depot, Princes street. lie was lined 20s or three days’ imprisonment, and an additional fine of qr three days for the damage done. Thkit.—.John M'Douald, who was dia. charged from gaol yesterday after undergoing a sentence for drunkenness, was charged with stealing a coat from the Bainhow ll' tel, George street, on ihe 20th inst. M. A. Fox said the coat produced was the one he had lost. Ho knew accused, who worked in the same shop as he did, and stopped at the same place. He missed the coat on Saturday evening, and valued it at Li. f-’y accused: He had given him permission to use the coat he (witness) was now wearing, but not the die stolen, _ Accused said he took the coat ami pawned it, though lie meant to redeem it. Neglected ChildkEiV. —David and Wm. Young, aged respectively three years and fifteen mouths, were charged with the above offence. Sub-Inspector Mallard said the or.se was an unfortunate one. The father had deserted and left the mother homeless, to pro ect four children. She was able and willing to support the other two. They were ordered to be committed to the Industrial School for seven years, and to be instructed iu the FroCestant form of religion. Trespass. —lsabella Now on was charged by Janet I lack with having wilfully entered her house iu P.egentrow, and having refused to le .vc when asKed to do so, Mr Cook for plaintiff; Mr Wilson for defendant. Janet Black said she lived in a house rented from defendant. She had been there six weeks, the agreement being to pay rent monthly. On the day in question defendant and her son went to her (witness’s) house, mid brought a lease with her. Defendant looked around the house, and found fault with it. Witness then told her to go away, upon which defendant used abusive language, and refused (o quit, walking through the house into the bedroom and front room. —By Mr Wilson : fche never received notice to leave from her landlady,—Mr Wilson contended that there was no trespass, as the defendant had only gone to see if the house was in proper repair.- His Worship considered a most unwarrantable intrusion had take place on the part of the defendant, and lined her 20s and costs. —David Brayshaw, senior, and his wife, Ellen Brayshaw, were charged by their son, David Brayshaw, jua., with trespassing on his property at A nder* son’s B iy. Mr JTa.ris, for complainant, suggested an amicable settlement, which was agreed to. Assault.— Susan Ecdes v. Josuah Ecclcs, was a c .'-argo of assault and battery. Plainsaid on Thursday night on going home, her husband w. Nt to the hotel to get a drink. She followed him, and tried to persuade him fromlgoing, whereupon he hit her with a (-tick which he had in bis hand, and knocked her down. Defendant asked that a remand might be granted o allow him to call a witness. Demanded till to-morrow.
